General Surgery Procedures
-
Hernia repair is a surgical procedure used to treat a weakened area of the abdominal wall where tissue or an organ pushes through. Dr. del Pino treats several types of hernias, including inguinal (groin), hiatal, ventral, and abdominal hernias. Depending on the type and location of the hernia, repair may be performed using minimally invasive laparoscopic or robotic techniques to restore the abdominal wall and reinforce the weakened area.
-
Gallbladder removal, or cholecystectomy, is a common procedure used to treat gallstones, gallbladder sludge, recurring gallbladder attacks, inflammation, and other gallbladder conditions. During the procedure, the gallbladder is removed while the liver continues to produce bile normally. Dr. del Pino performs minimally invasive and robotic gallbladder surgery, which uses small incisions and specialized instruments to remove the gallbladder.
-
A hiatal hernia occurs when part of the stomach moves through the diaphragm and into the chest. This can contribute to acid reflux, heartburn, regurgitation, chest discomfort, and difficulty swallowing. Hiatal hernia repair involves returning the stomach to its normal position and repairing the opening in the diaphragm. The procedure may be performed using minimally invasive or robotic techniques and can sometimes be combined with anti-reflux surgery.
Anti-reflux surgery is designed to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) when symptoms are persistent or do not respond adequately to medications and lifestyle changes. The procedure strengthens or restores the barrier between the stomach and esophagus, helping prevent stomach contents from flowing back into the esophagus. Surgical treatment may help reduce symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, regurgitation, and difficulty swallowing in appropriately selected patients.
-
Colon surgery, or colectomy, involves removing part or all of the colon to treat certain diseases and conditions. Surgery may be recommended for conditions such as diverticulitis, colon cancer, polyps, inflammatory disease, or other problems affecting the colon. When appropriate, minimally invasive or robotic techniques can be used to remove the affected portion of the colon while preserving as much healthy bowel as possible.
-
Dialysis access surgery creates a reliable pathway for patients who need long-term hemodialysis. Procedures may include AV fistula creation, AV graft placement, declotting, fistulograms, angioplasty, stent placement, and Perm-Cath removal. An AV fistula connects an artery to a vein, while an AV graft uses a synthetic tube when the patient’s veins are not suitable for a fistula. Proper access is essential for safe and effective dialysis.
-
Emergency general surgery provides urgent surgical treatment for conditions that require immediate medical attention. Dr. del Pino treats emergency conditions such as appendicitis, bowel obstruction, bowel perforation, and other acute abdominal problems. Depending on the patient's condition, emergency surgery may involve procedures such as an appendectomy or bowel surgery. When medically appropriate, minimally invasive techniques may be used to treat the underlying problem.
If you land in the hospital, you can request him as your surgeon. You have the right to choose Dr. del Pino and not be assigned the surgeon on call.
