The Gastric Sleeve VS. Gastric Balloon

  • The balloon is not covered by insurance, average cost is $7,000

  • Many insurances cover the Gastric Sleeve. Cash price is about $9000

  • Balloon is reversible, temporary, removable

  • Sleeve is not reversible, it is permanent

  • Balloon does not require incisions, Sleeve does

  • Balloons must be removed after 6 months, you can get a second one, but it will cost you again

  • With the Sleeve you lose about 35% (one third) of your weight, the balloon only gives you a 10% (one tenth) weight loss

  • 80% of people will regain all the weight back in one year period after the balloon is removed. There are no long-term studies with the Gastric Sleeve.
